gas mileage
ok, i was just thinking...i dont know what kind of gas mileage my truck would get
 . it is a 1969 with a 1990 bed, it has a 350 motor and a 350 turbo trans., headers, and a edelbrock 4bbl carb. can someone please give me an estimate as to how good/bad the gas mileage is? the reason i dont know, is because i havent gotten a chance to drive the truck much and the gas gauge doesnt work. so can somebody please help me out?thanks in advance c-mack

Just a guess but I'd say around 12 mpg?? It also depends on your driving style, how well it's all setup, etc.

...well i drive sorta slow/normaly just the speed limit. im very cautious. i dont want to wrap my project/money pit around a tree. and what do you mean about the setup?

Write down how many gallons you bought (3). Write down the mileage (2). Subtract the mileage (1) from the mileage (2). That is how far you drove. Divide that by your second tank (3). Miles over gallons = miles per gallon.

My truck would average about 7mpg...
But I was also always running late and flying about 85-90mph and rapping 4500RPMs or so. Anywho....its kind of funny being able to accually see your gas guage move.

I'd say closer to 10-12. I have the same set-up, but with a 700R4, but I do a lot of "city driving" (35-50 mph) so I use OD rarely. I get about 13 mpg. I get 15-16 highway.
You'll get decent mileage 55 and less, but once you start gettin up in the rpms from the 3 speed you're mileage will go down. All trucks are different. Some peeps say they only get 7 or 8 mpg out of a 350/350 combo while other's claim 12 or 13. A lot has to do with driving style.

Damn, I wish... 7 is great, even with the OD... But then again, I cant keep my foot out of it either...
Something about 150ft black lines just brings a tear to my eye...

Just got mine out of the shop for some serious road tests today. Probably drove 40 miles and used 6 gallons of gas.
396/t400/3.73 Waiting for 2.92s to be delivered. May help some on the mileage, but the main reason is to keep the RPMs down on the freeway. I will NEVER check my mileage. I love this truck, and when it needs gas I will just fill it up. Spell that F U N .

I was getting about 10mpg before I re-tuned my "e-bay special" Edelbrock 1406 (it was tuned about as rich as it could get). I changed the primary rods and jets back to stock and that improved mileage to 13mpg. I have a wideband AFR monitor that I'm using to try to squeeze out even more.
Bad news is that my TH400 is on the blink, so right now, I get real close to 0mpg....  HomerJ |

My ole farm truck gets between 12 and 13 mpg as close as I can tell. I am not real sure because it has 31x10.5x15 tires on the back.
It is more or less a stock 350 with duals and a later year HEI dizzy. It has a compound 4 speed with 3.73 gears in the rear. Of course I drive pretty slow being an ole farrmer. When I was young it was a different story, in the 70's I had a 69 AMX with a 390 that would go like heck. Danny -SEMO |

"your mileage may vary"...........You really can't go by what someone says they get with a like combination as there as so many variables. It would be safe to say you will get between 7 and 20.
