suggestions for install of powerbrake booster?
i just received a package from ece. new brake booster, master cylinder and valve and lines. i had new brakes installed a few weeks ago and after spending a lot of money i decided i'm going to attempt to do the rest of my work myself. anyone have any words of wisdom. hints, warnings?
thanks |

Re: suggestions for install of powerbrake booster?
it's all easy. i did my brakes when i was 15 by myself without any guidance. i swapped a 77 booster onto my 72 and lengthened the pushrod with some angle iron bolted to the pedal. running new lines, bolting the new parts together, and bleeding the brakes takes no more than half a day. i'm only 16 now.

Make sure the rod that goes between the master cylinder and the booster is
3 3/4" long the one that ece sent me was only 2.5" I did realize it until i had to call a tech at ece.

Yeah we sell extension rods in various lengths to fit most applications.

If you have a Q-jet, there is a fitting in the back of the base plate where the line hooks to--or supposed to anyways. Brake lamps, re-adjust the switch or check the pedal height. Sounds like it changed when you installed the new rod coming thru the firewall

may have to adjust brake light switch, my pedal was lower and wouldn't touch it, you can see the switch in pic 4 under dash, vac line on carb if it has fitting, I went to th e manifold.

Re: suggestions for install of powerbrake booster?
I had the same thing happen to me. Although, I didn't realize until after the battery was dead.

Re: suggestions for install of powerbrake booster?
i looked real quick before the sopranos is starting. so when the button is pressed the brake lights are off and when you apply pressure to the brake it lifts up from the button and the lights go on? and because i had to move my drill a new hole one inch lower it is not applying pressure and the brakes are on? is that confusing? thanks guys
