found a 4x4 shortbed frame
I found a factory shortbed 4x4 frame. I have a 72 longbed which I was going to section the frame. Now I wont have to. Frame I found is just that, a frame. I can probably use axles and suspension of the longbed, Is there a difference in rear leaf springs (lenghth) beween the longbed and shortbed? Any thing else that I should know or will need? Thanks for any info,

Suspension is the same lwb vs. swb.Driveshaft is shorter in the rear.Depending on the year of the frame, the rear suspension was different. The spring hangers on 67-70s(?) are different on the rear as opposed to 71-72.The 67-68 rear suspension is totally different.
As long as its a 67-72 the stuff is inter-changable.Brake lines are routed different depending on year but thats not a big deal.If it is a 67-68 then to use the 72 suspension you basically need to use the complete 72 rear suspension on the swb frame.Spring hangers, springs, etc.Does it have power steering or does it have a "dimpled" frame where the steering box is?The 67-68s didnt have that.A factor when putting power steering on a 67-68. I thought all was interchangable, thanks for the info. I dont know about the dimpled frame, as I have not picked it up yet. I will see it this weekend. Is there any numbers on frame to tell me what year it is? |

Re: found a 4x4 shortbed frame
I edited my post...The 67-72 stuff is interchangebale.69-72 is the easiest inter changing,69-72 stuff will work on 67-68s but its not just a bolt in type of deal.Front suspension no problem, rear springs are different on 67-68s.-That info I got from MSGROSS.There is numbers(VIN) on the frame. If you post a pic of it we can tell what year or year span it is.

Re: found a 4x4 shortbed frame
they put 52" and 56" springs on the backs. You will have to measure. And rear driveshaft will be too long.
