Wood floor
Just starting to redo my 72 jimmy. Looking to do something different. I want to put the wood in the back area like the truck beds have, is this possible and if so has any one seen this done? Thanks for any help that any one can give me with my project.

I saw one done 10 years ago and it looked good. No camera that day wish I had taken pictures. By the way It was one of the first 4 to 2 wd conversion I had ever seen. It had be lowered and when I looked up under it I saw the rear leaf springs. I asked the owner and he confirmed it. I know I'm not much help but it is possible and if done right looks great. I think he installed it on top of the metal floor.

Thanks for the help Frizzle.
I think the key was the '73 and up rear cross member, because it has a 3/4" step in it and all the holes line up for the SS strips, wierd huh? Just had to notch it out to go under the tail lites, then just bolt it up like orig. and tack weld alittle. Wheelhouses just slotted the mounting holes to the inner bedsides 3/4" and used fender washers. Also flattened out flange that usually bends under wheel arch. Used short bed wood and cut about 3" off, had to flop sides that have the cut out for the wheel houses, needed the extra length at the rear.... still have to add little wood spacers at the step up, under SS strips, makes it look more.... finished. Take your time at the 'B' post, used a router to get the short pc. of wood to fit rite, I went a little excessive. but next time I'll get a better fit. SS strips seem to cut best with a cut off wheel, chop saw seemed to blue up the stainless, but it would probably polish out. Cut all your wood at once, looks better on the step up. Replaced all cross pcs. w/new. Had to buy a pickup crossmember and notch it 1/2" for the forward body mount one. That's about it, but the hardest part was getting the old metal bed out,PITA. Everything sits on top like the original metal bed. If you need specific pics. just ask. At the rate you work it will take you 15 minutes J.Gotta try that radio fix you did...like that's not over my head, heh heh PS, get the kit without any holes in the wood, SS strips flopped around and you could use all the orig. holes and add a few

It looks great. I think when an if I ever get to my 72 CST 2wd Blazer I'm going to do it. My bed floor will need to be repaired or it's wood. I don't think I'm going to use the rear seat anyway.

Here's another question for ya... What do you think about sealing up all the cracks and crevasses? In a truck bed it doesn't really matter but in a Blazer or Burb you want it as sealed as possible. I was thinking about either undercoating it or lining the bottom with peel-and-seal. Any thoughts?

A lot of people don't know that the Burbs actually came with wood in the back from the factory (treated plywood). So switching to planks and strips will be pretty easy for me.
How does this apply to your Blazer? Well, the front edge of the wood (under the 2nd row seat) has an angle strip to finish off the edge. Something like this may work with the planks, but it will need slots cut for the chrome strips. That or shave the strips to fit over the angle strip. |

Kinda like your second suggestion, seems easier to shave the SS strips. Thanks for the idea, wasn't sure where to go with that area, but that will hide the end grain nicely.
On a side note, this morning I finally have my door hanging on the passenger side. Yaaahoooo, what a b!tch, fought me all the way.... J.
