fuel pump recommendation so i can go to the up coming meet

seriously thinking about going down to the meet but my fuel pump leaks a bit and if she sits it takes awhile to get the fuel back up to the carb so to be on the safe side i should change it if I dare to drive 8 hours to the meet.

There are sooo many fuel pumps on the market for my 350 and i dont know which to buy, i've been looking at ebay for a mechanical pump that will be a solid fit.

Which to do you all recommend, and does anyone have a simple step by step install? I know for most of you this is a simple deal but i dont want to make a mistake to regret it on the side of highway north of St. Louis.

Re: fuel pump recommendation so i can go to the up coming meet

I agree with cdowns. Just go to your local parts house and pick one up. They aren't too difficult to install. Disconnect your fuel lines from the fuel pump and unbolt the pump from the block. When you remove the fuel pump, the fuel pump rod may slide out, which isn't a big deal. If you have to reinstall the fuel pump rod, just put some heavy grease on it to keep it in place while you install the new fuel pump. Bolt the new pump to the block and reinstall your fuel lines. Hope this helps and that I didn't leave anything out.

Thank you. exactly the advice i was looking for. So any auto parts will have my fp. Okay, thats what i'll do. ACDelco. people talked about using a l9nger bolt but if heavy grease will do the trick i'll try that.

appreciate it.

Re: fuel pump recommendation so i can go to the up coming meet

I've had quite a few fuel pumps that would do that, even new ones. I've been told that it is normal, but it still seems odd to me.
Come to think of it, every small block chevy or big block caddy I've had would do this.
Something to point out on the swap, on the small block, there is a bolt on the front of the block, down low up front, that if you remove it, and install a longer one, it'll hold the push rod up.
Just remember to replace it with the short one and tighten it down, it'll puke a butt load of oil if you don't

Re: fuel pump recommendation so i can go to the up coming meet

that longer bolt will also bend the FP pushrod if left in so make sure that you remove it and put the shorter bolt back in, if you go this route.

I agree. The through bolt hole is there, and use it. Makes it a 15-30 minute job on the stock pumps. Good idea GM!!!!

They are so inexpensive that it certainly won't hurt to carry a spare...I do. With these old trucks it is worth it to have a couple of spare parts to along in case of a random part failure.

Re: fuel pump recommendation so i can go to the up coming meet

Change it. You can loose a lot of gas if it really goes bad. Or the gas could be going into your crankcase. I don't think you want to chance that for something you could have fixed for under 20 bucks. You can also use a thin blade like a hacksaw blade to hold the rod up as you slide the arm for the pump in.
