Re: window cranks

you can put a short bolt through the end and make it work, or just go down to NAPA and buy one - they look very similar to original, about 7 bucks.

Re: window cranks

I've had really BAD luck with aftermarket window cranks.
Just wait for the next swap meet. You can usually pick a few up for a buck each. I never junk a car with the window cranks attached.

Seems like I spend half my time mixing JB Weld and the other half being able to actually use my aftermarkets.

Re: window cranks

Aftermarket ones can be got at any parts store in the help section for 5-7 bucks. Or you can usually get them off of an old chevy van getting some off of a chevy van.

Re: window cranks

Most vendors carry replacements for the crank. They run about $5.00-8.00 each.

wreckless, you either need to get a clip that holds the crank/handle on or the splines on the window regulator shaft may be bad.If the crank will pull completely off then look to see if the splines are good.It could be the ones in the crank if you're lucky. The regulators are more expensive and somewhat of a pain to install but net hard. There should be a FAQ on the regulator install,if not just ask.

Re: window cranks

I bought a new repop window crank about two years ago and it still works great. Then a couple months later, ordered some more parts including another window crank and it looked a lot different than the one I bought before. It only lasted a couple days before the teeth where it attatches to the regulator got rounded off. It only worked a couple times if I pushed it in towards the door, then it finally wore out. wreckless68, sounds like you have the same problem. If you can try to find some original ones at the boneyard that aren't rounded off grab 'em up or there's always new GM ones, but those usually run at least $20 a piece.

Re: window cranks

If you are just missing the knob you can get that part at the "HELP" parts section of any parts store. They aren't much and they press on. Otherwise I like a slightly older window crank handle if you go junk yarding. 65-66(and other years I am sure) Impalas have a very nice heavy cast metal handle and knob.
