Help With Ls1 Install......want To Sell At This Point.
Well here is my problem. The motor is on the mounts and there is a little bit more than an inch betweent the back of the motor and the tranny. In the process of trying to bolt the motor in I busted the driver side motor mount. One other thing; the oil pan is not long enought o make it past the cross member(not sure the exact name for it). So now I am out of money and very frustrated. I want to sell everything that I bought and rebuild the motor that I pulled. The one I pulled leaks oil pretty bad from somewhere(not sure where) and burns oil also. Does anyone have any suggestions or opinoins on what you guys would do?
Check out piskc for mount line up and space between tranny adn motor. |

What motor mounts are you using? Those dont look right at all.
Those look like the stock mounts to me.

Hang in there man I'm sure somebody will post up on this and point you in the right direction, If not you could give me the motor Just kidding. I know there is some members with the same setup. What tranny are you using?

Ls1 Does Not = Bolt In.

you need to get the GENIII mounts .... you can find them at ECE .... so far i hear they are they better ones.

I am trying to bolt up to my th350. I bought a conversion kit that moves the mounts forward from the stock location on the LS1. The mounts came off my 350.

Another issue is the spacer that I have. I put it on before the flywheel because the flywheel was hitting the bolts on the main seel cover. With the converter and flywheel touching I still have about a 1/2 inch gap. But without the spacer I have the problem with the flywheel hitting the bolts.

So I need to scrap the mounts i have and get new ones? Then I have to drill new holes in the cross member under the oil pan and in the frame. I just want to makes sure I get this right.

Probably not. ECE mounts will actually move the engine farther forward than most other GenIII (LS1/LQ4/LM7/LQ9/etc) mounts do

That doesn't mean it's not possible, but with the money you're going to spend on adapting it all out, you could have picked up a good used 4l60e and skipped the nonsense and headaches. Using the ECE mounts, the LS1 and 4l60E are a direct bolt-in and will even use the stock 67-72 tranny mount (using the stock tranny xmember location). It's all about the panning and funding, I suppose. I was not happy with the LS1 oil pan, so I converted to the truck pan. It made for a better fit. If you do this, you will need to: a) get the oil pickup for the truck pan. b) get the disptick and tube for the truck pan. c) get the truck oil pan, which comes with its own windage tray. All of the part numbers for this stuff are listed in my buildup thread at LS1tech. I sold my the spare pan I had really cheap (shipped) on LS1tech a couple of months ago, so I can't help you there. Expect it to set you back a couple hundred bucks unless you can get one used/salvage (which I'd recommend - clean well before using).

So would it be best for me to take the tranny out and bolt the motor and tranny together then put the two of them back in the truck and see where it lines up?

Yep. Mount them together as a unit. Makes life a LOT easier.
-You're probably going to have to lengthen your driveshaft about an inch. -The adapter plates you have will work fine. -The truck style oil pan will fit much better. -Use the stock tranny crossmember, just put it where it needs to be and drill new holes. This will get you hard mounted in the truck,- then the real fun begins- wiring, accessories, exhaust, etc. -Chris

Well I am out of money and have come to the hard decision of selling. I am going to sell everyhting I have for the install and try to get a little bit of my money back.........look for my stuff in the for sale section......
