Does anyone know what I can do to brighten up my cluster at night?
I recently added the white face vinyl, but the lighting isnt right still.
I was looking at some of the new car dashes out there and saw
a lot of colored lighting for the display.
Is there a way for us to change out the lamps that twist in to our
bezel's that would change the color of our displays?
I have an orange truck and think it would look cool on the white
gauges to have orange or red lamps to shine on the white.
Anybody ever tried this with success??

I don't know if they would work or not, but auto meter gauges come with red and green light bulb covers that work ok. I think the red comes out a little pinkish. I think I recall seeing them for sale at summit, just the bulb cover that is. I am not sure though. That just one thought. Maybe try a balloon?

Get the "super white" 194 series of bulbs, or some generic blue colored 194s. Oh and wire in a relay for the dash lights. it makes all the diffrence.

I bought red lights for my dash you only need about 4 or 5 bulbs super easy to change I have not put it in yet it will be a while before I know what it will look like. our Canadian Tire Store Sell them for 7.99 a pack I paid 77 cents for mine at a place called princess auto The company that makes the bulbs is Victor Auto Bulbs Moodlights Kit the bulb number is 194R package number is V545

Thanks for the Info.. I am going to look into the 194's in blue I think if they are available. The look on the new car dashes is awesome and I think that that look would really work in ourtrucks also!!

Cool Colored Lamps

Have you checked to see if the rheostat on your headlight switch? Those things are natorious for burning out on chevys.

Yeah it does adjust the intensity, its just not very bright from the factory I think...

Josh painted the green part inside of his dash, gloss white. He said the diffrence is like night and day.

I've painted two dashes now, I took picsof my second one last night and hope toget them posted soon, paint the insdies all gloss white andthen hae gotten 194B bulbs for them. I get 194G forthe tunr signals and leave off the colored covers, and I hd a red one as a high beam indicatorin the first and blue in this one,u ca get orange/yellow nd purple 194 bulbs too.
I think a few people will like my dash when I post a pic, but I'm not tellin what I did yet

Go to a large truck stop or a place that sales acc. for big trucks. They usually have colored bulbs and bulb covers in different colors. Thats where I got mine.

I painted the innards of mine white too (not just the guages) It is a huge differance.
If you just put in brighter bulbs, it'll still glow in that funky green hue.
I installed blue lights in mine after the white paint, and it looks sweet. (auto zone has blue bulbs)
On the GMC witht eh white guages, i actually had to turn down the brightness of the dash lights.On the one ton, black guages with white innards and blue bilbs, it looks even cooler than the GMC's set up, but not quite as bright.

Thanks longhornmail, Thats the look I am after. I thought the same thing when I saw that nasty looki green paint on the lens.
I am going to shoot it white. Did you use any particular kind of white paint to do yours??

if you want the cheap way, you can always color the bulbs with glass coloring stuff from the hobby shop. I've done it on my s10 and it hasn't burned off. the other lights in my cab have burned off though.

I used the cheapest flat white paint on the shelf at wall mart.
I also used it to shoot my tail light buckets...they are quite a bit brighter both in brightness, and in 'shade of red'.
