classic autos of carolina is crazy!!

I stopped in today just to see what they had. Found several nice old belairs and impalas and a couple of chevy trucks one of which was a 71 super with a 350. The truck was covered with briars and loaded with body parts from other cars. The bed side were in ok shape not perfect had rusted rockers, and the typical rust everywhere else. I asked how much he wanted for it and he said 1500.00 for it. Not running. I think he bumped his head.

Was it a short or long bed, options? Depending on what it had, these trucks are bringing better money these days.

I agree with Special K. The days of the $500.00 decent/good project truck are over. It's far better to pay more to begin with and save in the long run. IMHO.

Re: classic autos of carolina is crazy!!

I looked at a 72 chevy C10 longbed with a 350 "supposibly", they wanted $3800 for it, and it had ball headed flat tires, alot of bondo in it, a frame that was half shot, the interier didn't even match, and it looked like someone took a hammer to the outer grille, crazy. I looked at another truck for $1200 dollers, which he didn't even know if it ran, the rockers and cab corners were shot, and the inner cab roof was ate through at the windshield, it was plum full of junk, but it did have a good frame. Like east side said, the $500 dollers for something decent days is over with pretty much, back about 10 years ago $500 dollers could get you a nice ride.

Six decent trucks?Nobody said you can`t get a truck for $500 or less. But,you won`t find a decent truck for that much.Heck,I haven`t for many years.

Spesial K is right on the money. Filling a barn with bad tin is not hard. Hey if that's what it takes to be a car/truck guy so be it. I'm not trying to be criticle so don't take me wrong, it's just frustrating to have guys walk up to you and try to tell you how over priced you are when your selling your truck for below build cost or better yet walk up to you and say "GOT AT LEAST "$10.000" into your ride eh'.... when all your trying to do is gas up your truck. Yeah right $10.000 x 4. I've never figured these type of guys out. They have to know what $10.000 buys. Sorry don't mean to rant but seriously reality is $30.000 for a sweet ride/driver built by the owner not farmed out to a shop. If you do it yourself for less then this your good at doing it.

Re: classic autos of carolina is crazy!!

roughedup72,

The fact that you were talking to a dealer of older vehicles certainly does not help make a lower price.

I got 6 trucks for around 300 for all. One was a really nice long bed with hardly any rust and you could drive it daily. The other 5 had no motors or transmissions, but were otherwise ok trucks. I kept 2 and I am building one now. I am doing all the work by myself and I am saving some money. I don't think 1500 for a complete truck in decent shape is very high. That is about the going price around here. I just came across a deal.
