antilock brake problem

My 02 Tahoe has developed an antilock brake problem. When you are braking lightly and almost stopped (5 mph) the anti lock brakes come on. I removed the wheel sensors, checked codes but no luck. Any suggestions??????

Re: antilock brake problem

GM had an ABS sensor recall here in the US on the 99-02 trucks. Not sure if the Tahoe was included, but it would make sense because they share parts. Anyway, road salt corrodes the sensor and causes them to fail over time. My truck did the same thing, but was replaced under the recall.

EDIT:
Here we go... here's an article on exactly what you describe.
It says the recall was only for the states though.

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/recal...05/gm_abs.html

Quote:
A GM spokesman says the problem occurs when salt and other road grime gets into the area covering the antilock braking system sensor near the wheel hub. The problem activates the ABS at speeds much lower than normal, requiring a longer stopping distance.

Re: antilock brake problem

I never got a recall notice on the abs module. one needs to be done. All ive heard of trouble on is th 1999. i just changed mine out but i got the module of a 2001 swapped modules not the whole abs unit. A 2004 module will not work on 1999 - 2003 (Ask me how I know) They are listed 1999 - 2005 or six i cant remember but if you swap modules it has to be 2003 and down try not to get another 1999 if you can help it. I got the module for $75 saving alot of money. Gm should do a recall. You can also go to absfixer.com he will rebuild your unit and overnight it back i cant remember like 100 or 150 dollars. Still cheaper than having to deal with the Stealership.

Re: antilock brake problem

Clean the area where the sensor mounts. The rust under the sensor changes the sensor position.

Re: antilock brake problem

My truck was recalled because it spent most of it's life in Indiana, I bought it from carmax and had it transferred to SC.

Re: antilock brake problem

I had the recall performed on both my 2000 silverado and my 2000 tahoe. Probably need it on my 2002 silverado as well.
Mine is also giving me fits when you go over 70mph. Had wheels/tires balanced but---put on 17" and may need recalbrating????

Re: antilock brake problem

i know there is a reflash that needs to be done, cuz the ebcm thinks the truck is in a out of control situation. have the dealer check for trouble codes in current and history. i've worked on a yukon that was doing this. have them check that it has the most currect program
