68 C10 fleet lwb build thread
hey guys,
since i'm actually startin to make some noticeable progress on my truck i thought i'd start my very own build thread. I've seen some sweet rides out there, lovin the 68's and thought i'd throw mine out there to get some feedback, opinions, and suggestions The first picture is of what i've been able to accomplish on my box so far, it doesn't show the color very well, but it is the same paint used on the 2004/5 avalanches i believe, the kind of pearl blue/gree/purple. The second pic so far is of the motor that i recently rebuilt and put into my 66 nova, but will be getting yanked and put into my truck... reason being my nova just hasn't been the same since it caught on fire street wheeler's "street machine weekend" right down the street from the show and shine long story lol |

Re: 68 C10 fleet lwb build thread
one thing i just noticed and would suggest is to get rid of the see through fuel filter and put on one of the steel ones, i havent had any problems with them but if heard many horror stories about them cracking and catching fire

Re: 68 C10 fleet lwb build thread
haha, thanks greesemonkey, definatly one of the first things i did after the fire, as well as put the propper steel lines on the cab ( the dual pumper fule lines) i also have the option of a chevy 400 6.0 out of a 79 chev, i think one of the only years they made/put that motor in a half ton... would u suggest that instead of the 350?

Re: 68 C10 fleet lwb build thread
personally id probly put the 400 in the truck and keep the nova goin, but thats me
on the plus side it would be nice to hear somebody say 400 instead of hearing 350 all the time

Re: 68 C10 fleet lwb build thread
that is very true, plust the additional horse power i'd get out of it... but i have a ways to go b4 i worry too much about drive train... i have a replacement cab to worry about finding, or repairing the great deal of work needed on mine now, as well as the suspension decision dillema i'm having.

Re: 68 C10 fleet lwb build thread
suspension decisions regarding how low to drop it, and how to go about doing it. i'm not sure if i want to put discs in and then be able to use drop spindles, etc. one thing i know for sure is discs would look a lot sharper behind bigger rims which is another future plan. i considered air ride... but too $$$

Re: 68 C10 fleet lwb build thread
Hey guys,
Managed to get away to the shop today for roughly an hour and thought i'd snap a couple more pictures and show you what i got done today. Replacement pannells are the way to go, as you can see from the body filler remaining even after the box was sandblasted, the guy that attempted to do a restore on this trup previously liked it a little too much. i'm open to any suggestions as well. |

Re: 68 C10 fleet lwb build thread
p.s., the only work i've done to it since i got it has been to the box and the frame (sandblasted box and frame, and painted frame with POR 15) the cab and front clip have yet to be sandblasted and i just cant wait to see what kinda damage is under that ugly yellow primer the previous owner sprayed.

Re: 68 C10 fleet lwb build thread
is there anywhere to get a little better quality replacement pannells? because these ones didn't seem shaped quite as well as they could have been
