Re: reving problems some one help
check the floats in the carbs, they could be fuel logged (like water logged) and sinking and trying to flood out the engine, my truck did that and thats what fixed it
if thats not the case then try advancing the timming a bit and see what happens

Re: reving problems some one help
I have already reset my floats... didnt really make any diff... and I spent a whole day (and a tank of gas) messing with my timing, and it made no difference either( though now I have a really cool small backfire at an idle, and when slowing down in gear
![]() On an original carburetor, I know that the bar holding the throttle linkage, and the butterfly valves round out their journal after X amount of years, and allow air to get inside, causing a vacuum leak, and subsequently, a backfire or "miss" situation. If yours is the original carb, or just an old one, try closing the choke plate a little bit a ta time, and see if that helps.. if it does, then I would gestimate to say, that the Air/fuel mixture is out of whack, and/or the carb is just worn out, and needs a rebuild/replacement.

Re: reving problems some one help
reseting the float level isnt going to help on a fuel logged float because its still going to sink
if its backfiring while slowing down it sounds like its running rich, it does sound cool and i love it to

Sounds to me like the timming chain jumped a tooth or two, you mignt want to take off the timming cover just to make sure... Just my two cents...

Re: reving problems some one help
dont mean to hijack the post but i have a similar problem. i know two possible causes. when i hit the gas sometimes it stalls out, but not enough to die most of the time. but it is kind of embarrassing to pull up at a light and let off the clutch and hit the gas and it stall and die. i know its running rich but im not too good at carb adjustments. also the little plate that has the notches to set the timing is broke off so the timing may be off. i set it the best i could by ear though. i have a mild 350 with a edlebrock performer and holly 600cfm 4bbl. again sorry to hijack but any suggestions would be great.
thanks, John

Re: reving problems some one help
Ok, this might sound a little off but...a few years ago, I had a 2 stroke quad, and I can feel the eyebrows raising now, but check your fuel lines for cracks. My quad had a fuel line crack, and every time I hit the throttle, the line would suck in air and stall out until it came back to idle... it took me weeks of adjusting the jetting, messing with the carb adjustments, only to find it was drawing in air instead fuel every tiem I laid hard on the throttle. I do realize there is a pump to pressurize the line between the carb and the pump, but check it, it might be an easy fix.
Also, check to see if your pump is overriding a sticky float, I have had a few cars that have done it to me! |
