t-5 in a 61'
dudes anyone here put a t-5 in a 61'? the truck currently has a 235/3spd and was wondering what was invoved in putting in a t-5 to make it more driveable. i'm not worried about if trans will hold up to heavy loads because it only hauls an occasional motor. thanks.

Re: t-5 in a 61'
I put one in my '62. It's a bolt in deal as far as the tranny goes. You do have to cut about half of the pilot shaft off and also shorten the driveline and fit it with a slipyoke. One from a TH350 will work. It is a really nice swap though!

Re: t-5 in a 61'
I hear that a Richmond / Doug Nash 5-speed is the easiest bolt in, because the pilot shaft works and it bolts right up to the stock belhousing so you can use your existing clutch. Might have to change the driveshaft - but other than that it's supposted to be a bolt in. Anyone know for sure?
There's one on Ebay currently at $1200 - Item number: 270133010705

Re: t-5 in a 61'
I have researced this, and be sure to check out shifter placemennt. If I remeber what i read before you can get a t5 world class tranny, and use a s shifter set up to work.

Re: t-5 in a 61'
Sorry about that, I should have been more clear. The s10 shifter position is more ideal for a truck instead of the car location. I did see somewhere online where a guy too a world class camaro tranny and used the so shifter setup so it would fit in his truck better.
