Re: Best parts deal you got for your 67-72!!!!!

My first 72 was given to me for my 15th birthday by a family friend. He thought the motor was locked up. Trailered it home from south Mississippi, put on a fresh battery, little gas in the carb, new master cylinder and some trans fluid and drove it around the block. Dad always laughed and said that was the most expensive free truck he's ever bought!!!!

1969k10stepside - Let me think about that offer for awhile...

OK I made up my mind - I will have to pass on that.

Re: Best parts deal you got for your 67-72!!!!!

I was given a "supposedly rebuilt" 350 for free... it blew after 10 min. of running.

I was also given a free 700R4 that lasted about 5K.

Other than that, I've gotten screwed in more deals than I've made out. Some of y'all have a horseshoe shoved up your....

Re: Best parts deal you got for your 67-72!!!!!

I paid a total of $400 for these first 6 trucks. (actually I haven't been able to get ahold of the old man to pay him). Which averaged out to @$66 each. The first part I sold was one of the 327's that I sold for $450.

Re: Best parts deal you got for your 67-72!!!!!

Bought my '67 CST-LWB for 9 franklins w/ the original 327 and newer TH400. Drove it home. Found a buck-eleven in change and a bottle of power steering fluid in the cab corners. Got the wrinkled sheet metal on the right side fender, grill and bedside for free.
Just a few weeks ago I picked up a primo 68 front clip including cowl and core support, plus most of the CST trim I was missing, gauge cluster, glove box door and most of the smaller do-dads out of the cab, both dent and rust-free doors, some extra glass and regulators, a perfect blower motor / heater core housing, OE unmolested front-end wiring harness and a pert near dent free, albeit hella surface rusty bedside....all for the paltry sum of $195.
I'm pleased.

Re: Best parts deal you got for your 67-72!!!!!

Well its not a part for my truck, but I will use it in building my truck. I just picked up a shop crane (cherry picker, engine lift, etc) for $75. 2 ton limit, folding legs, 8 ton ram. The guy bought it new a few years ago to move an engine out of a Corvette. He used it once and it sat in a corner of his garage ever since. It practically looks brand new still. Works great too.

Re: Best parts deal you got for your 67-72!!!!!

I saw what looked like a guy hauling off some vehicles along the road and there was a`72 CheyenneSuper there(cab on chassis).I stopped to see if I could get the door panels off of it.He said for $30 I could have both doors and anything else I wanted.I ran home and came back with my impact driver, pulled the doors, glovebox & door,dash,headliner/trim,cargo light/switch/harness,seatbelts,visors,knobs/switches,a/c vents, pedals, rearview, tilt, and ashtray. Then, went back to work at the job I had been heading to.

Re: Best parts deal you got for your 67-72!!!!!

I know this is for truck parts, But couldn't resist telling my recent deal. I traded an Old Lawn mower for a 1988 Mercedes Benz. Have to put a fuel pump in it. but for a 50 lawn mower I aint complaining.

Re: Best parts deal you got for your 67-72!!!!!

o.k a buddy of mine gave me my '72 for fixing the floor of the trailer it had sat on for 4 years. got a sb 350/.30 over from another friend in exchange for some landscaping help. spent $2.99 on a pilot bearing only to find a prefectly good one in the motor behind the torque conv.. my uncle gave me a new hei distributor and aluminum intake( he put them on his 350 for @ 2weeks and the motor blew, so he junked everything but those two items.) cut down a big walnut tree( once sawn and milled it will be the new trailer floor and floor ,or new stepside bed haven't desided yet.) then to top it all off a guy owed my uncle some money and ended up giving my uncle a steel truss span garage 18wx28Lx10h at peak. well my uncle said he didn't have any use for it ,and if i wanted it he'd take what the guy owed him for it. long story short, i got a new garage for $400.
