Disc Brake Conversion on a 68 c10
hey guys,
i really need some help with the whole disc brake swap topic. I'm interested in having power 5 lug disc brakes front and rear. currently i have manual brakes with 6 lug front and rear drums. whats the best way to go about converting this, and a little how to info would be awesome!. it would be greatly appreciated, even some pics or tech info would be great! if you have pictures of your swaps post some pics and let me check them out. thanks guys. p.s. if there is another way to do the conversion without buying the really expensive kits let me know. |

Re: Disc Brake Conversion on a 68 c10
I pulled the front suspension from an '89 Burb for my swap. A lot of guys swap the entire crossmember from a 73-87 truck under their 67-70. You can also bolt the upper/lower control from a 73-87 truck to your existing crossmember, then just use the donor trucks's spindles and front end parts. I would recommend replacing the ball joints, tie rods, etc. before swapping them over. The FAQ has a lot of great information on brake swaps and booster installs. Here is a link to the page:

Re: Disc Brake Conversion on a 68 c10
or if i go with the 73-87 front crossmember, does the new crossmember just bolt on? and to lower it then i would get drop spindles for the 73-87 c10 not the 67-72 right?

Yes, if you installed a crossmember from a 73-87 you would need to get drop spindles for whatever year truck the crossmember came from. It's a pretty much a bolt in deal, with the exception of a couple holes that need to be drilled. If you are going to use a booster from a later truck, you'll have to modify the brackets to fit the firewall, as well as the length of the rod that connects to the pedal. Member Brad has a great thread on this in the FAQ. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Re: Disc Brake Conversion on a 68 c10
that helps tons! thank you so much! now i just have to find a donor truck lol, that should be the next interesting part... lol that might not be cheaper than getting the conversion kit but we'll c. any suggestions for the rear axle? should i do discs on the back too or just stay wit the drumbs and convert to power? i just really like the look of big discs behind big rims rather than drumbs. i'm open to any output, and if anyone has more pictures of their disc brake conversions or interesting mods please post some pics!
