Wipers....

I got in my '82 the other day and, as soon as I turned the ignition on... the wipers came on. The switch is not on, and they will not shut off. I pulled the plug on the wiper motor to get them to stop. Any ideas on this???

Re: Wipers....

I had a wiper motor where the washer would not go off. It would empty the washer bottle and just keep pumping. It wasn't the switch though, it turned out to be something in the wiper motor that got fowled up. Replacing the wiper motor fixed it.

Of course this was on a 78 where the washer and wiper were integrated.

Were they coming on fast or slow? If they were coming on intermediatly im betting its not the switch. Behind your switch under the dash is a modulater if your truck has intermediate delay wipers. Dollars to donuts thats your trouble. Or it was on my truck.

Re: Wipers....

mine doesn't have intermittent wipers.... just high and low. Low hasn't worked since I bought the truck.

Re: Wipers....

You've got a bad wiper motor. That's probably why the low hasn't worked either. The circuit inside is shorted. I just had the same problem in my 82 last week.

Re: Wipers....

You may have to change the wiper switch, I had that happen on the 84 and th emotor was just fine, because it would do the same thing on a new motor. The changeout of the switch solved my problem.
