New Old Truck!!!! 70 C-20 1 Owner

Check out this 70 Chevy I bought yesterday! It has had 1 owner since 1-26-1970 until now.
The man who owned this was 80 and used it for hauling feed and livestock for his farm in Southern Illinois.
The paint and everything is original for the most part down to the split rims but it is missing two hubcaps if anyone knows where to get some.
This is for all the original fans out there!

That is COOL! I wouldn't touch it. Leave it the way it is.
Nice find. How much?

Nice truck. What part of Southern Illinois did it come from. Just wondering how close it is to me. I'd like to have a 3/4 ton someday.

Re: New Old Truck!!!! 70 C-20 1 Owner

Very Cool
Looks as good as my '68 C20. It's gonna' stay an original as well. I am fortunate to have all 4 original caps still.

I have 17 inch rims, not Split though. What size are the split rims?

Re: New Old Truck!!!! 70 C-20 1 Owner

Actually the truck is a 307 V8 with a 350TH transmission but no p/s or p/b.
It did come with full foam seat and a radio plus aux. springs and gauge package.
The truck was from in between Waterloo and Red Bud, IL. That is about 20 minuets south of St. Louis, MO along the Mississippi River.
What I paid for it. $1,200.00. Considering it only has two little rust spots other than some surface rust from chips etc. I'd say I got it cheap!
It wont get modified, just slicked up and used for an advertisement tool for my brothers flooring business. It will get a billboard mounted to each side of the rack and driven around as a portable billboard, and then in the warehouse at night to rest.

Re: New Old Truck!!!! 70 C-20 1 Owner

I missed your question about the split rims Quinn. They are 16". There not in very good shape though so I think that is the one thing that we will have to replace sith something more modern. Maybe some later 70's 16" white painted steel factory rims.

I'm about an hour or so from Red Bud. You got a steal on that truck. Most trucks around here fro $1200 are in a lot worse shape than that. Especially an old farm truck.

Re: New Old Truck!!!! 70 C-20 1 Owner

I agree. It was a great deal. The funny thing is that it had been for sale for a while and the owner ( Original ) said that he had a few offers but no one could come up with the $$$$$.
I think in most cases if it has loud mufflers and mag wheels it sells faster but this is just the way I like em.
As if the price wasnt great, the seller had all the brakes rebuilt and drums turned, the radiator boiled out and the transmission rebuilt within the past two years.
I sort of felt bad driving away with it while he and his wife watched my daughter and I dissapear down the road. I would think that after 37 years it would be like a family member.
I am hoping that the Med. olive paint will come back to life. It is flat but still has plenty of paint on it as it was always kept in the barn.

Re: New Old Truck!!!! 70 C-20 1 Owner

Interesting on the Rims, You have split 16's, I have stock 17's not split. I see lots of 15's.

Split rims on a '70 sorta' seems like a trip backwards in rim technology. Was this common?

Anyone know what logic was applied to rim/tire selection by the good folks at GM in this time period?

I believe it (split-rim option) was a heavy duty option.Probably more hype than help. It was included in the "Custom Camper" pkg according to the 1968 Kelly Blue Book.

Great original find and a good deal! I agree, keep it original as possible. Gotta love the "beer hauling bed gates" & the ricer deterant rear bumper. Like mine on my 67'.

Re: New Old Truck!!!! 70 C-20 1 Owner

Yes it is very original, a great period correct vehicle. 16" inch split rim wheels were very popular in the mid sixties to early seventies untill the 16.5" one piece wheels were introduced. The 17" was a split rim size while the 17.5" was the one piece wheel ( both these sizes disappeared in 1969).The 16" one piece wheel started to phase out the 16.5" in the eighties, however it was an optional wheel in the mid- seventies.
