Cab questions

I found a local cab that is in better shape than the current one on my truck. The only bad spots appear to be the cab corners, rockers, and some of the floor near the doors. The new cab is for a maual and factory AC. The guy is keeping the AC unit. Would I have any problems converting this cab to auto and non AC? I don't know if the firewall is different and the pedal assembly is different? I have all the components in the old cab that I can swap over. Any thoughts?

it's not everything you are asking about, but gives you an idea of the work involved..

Re: Cab questions

The clutch unbolts and you should be able to plug the hole where the rod went through the firewall.

I'm not sure about how much work it would be to install a heater only. I saw somewhere that the firewall openings are different for AC trucks. It might have been someone trying to sell something no one really needs.

Re: Cab questions

So it sounds like all I would have to do to convert to Non A/C would be to cut the dash at the dotted line and weld in the bottom portion from my original cab and weld a filler plate to the firewall so I could cut the different hole for the standard blower box. It sounds like the pedals shouldn't be too hard either. I'm still going to have to do cab corners, rockers, and some floor work. Whats your thoughts on $250 for the cab with a title?

Re: Cab questions

really no need to weld up the dash you can still run vent hose to the ac outlets from your heater and have a more evenly distributed heat during the winter

Re: Cab questions

I just want to make sure I don't jump into something that would be more of a headache than it is worth. I like the idea of leaving the A/C vents - less work. I would still need to modify the firewall some and fix the typical rust areas. I might go look it over again and snap some pictures. I think he said he would throw in the tailgate also which was GM original.

Re: Cab questions

The trans hump is no problem.Alot of guys smooth the firewalls and use Vintage Air.You don`t want a/c,or you don`t want to mess with getting a working factory a/c system together?I think it`s a good price. You would be about to get back out of it if you needed.
