serpentine alternator question...

Got everything running on my truck, put some chrome valve covers on. They are just a little different than stock, the ends are squared, and the stock were a little more rounded. Now my alt stud is too close for comfort. there is about 1/8" clearance w/ out boot, and to get the boot on, I had to loosen the alt.
This alt/serp setup is off 89 iroc, the stud on back is not the usual "stud" it;s the small metal "tab" that has a screw hole in it. I need some more clearance!
I can't clock the rear of the alt, due to bolt hole on rear for brace.
Anyone know of another alt that will fit with more clearance, as in a real stud and maybe located higher for better clearance?
thx
