stock MC bore/stroke? universal MC?

so, just curious -

1) Does anyone know the bore and stroke on our stock master cylinder (C10, half ton, 67-72)?

2) Has anyone used one of the Tilton or Wilwood universal master cylinders with a larger bore and smaller stroke?

This weekend, I got the chance to 'feel' the difference between two of the exact same cars, one using an MC with 0.600" bore, and the other using a 0.750 bore, and man ... the latter of those two felt like it had power-assist brakes, rather than regular old drums (this was on a pair of BMW E30's used for track racing).

Ive been kicking the idea around of going with a power setup on the truck, but if I can spend $75 on a large-bore MC instead and save all of that space in my engine compartment, then hell - I'll do it in a heartbeat.

Has anyone out there done something like this? Does anyone know of a universal or large-bore MC that will bolt onto our firewall without modification?

Re: stock MC bore/stroke? universal MC?

I'm fairly confident the bore on the stock MC for out trucks is a 1.000"

I'm using a '67-'76 Corvette MC that has a 1.125" bore on my "heap"

I'm gonna say that with the weight of these trucks (3500 lbs. PLUS), an additional 1/8" is not gonna gain ya that much with a front disc/rear drum system ... not enough to do away with a power booster anyway. I am running the larger bore due to the 4 wheel disc brakes and the additional volume needed for this type of system.

As far as bolting it directly to the firewall ... I dunno ... but I am using this MC bolted to an OEM / NOS booster ... look for part # MC2912H - middle to lower part of page.

As far as the stroke, didn't know that was something that could be specified and have never seen that in any specs for a MC so I can't comment on that.

All of them I've seen are listed with stroke/bore. Hopefully this link will work for you:

Re: stock MC bore/stroke? universal MC?

The only ones that list stroke are the motorsports type and I'm pretty sure they aren't DOT approved for street use. That's why I never even considered this type.

Go to the 3rd one down, the first that i came to that appeared to be a "stock" type MC and it doesn't show a stroke spec.

Re: stock MC bore/stroke? universal MC?

I've seen the Tilton ones which don't list the bore, but I think your list is sorted different than mine, because my entire first page is showing stroke/bore

Most of those that I click on still show the bore in the specs, sometimes the stroke. It's weird. This is a kit I was looking at a while back:

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...=SSB%2DA28152& -- 7" booster, plus MC for less than $250 - and it's a 7" booster, so it's pretty small and I think it would work out. But I'd still rather just do a MC for clearance reasons.
