i finally did it

well i finally got around to sanding down my tires into whitewalls and i must say it was deffinitly worth the work and mess for it

the last pic is what i started with, i used a grinder with a metal flex grinding disk to get them down to the whites and i used a metal buffing pad to clean up and smooth them out

i also wore saftey glasses, ear plugs and dust mask and it was worth it

I was shown some pictures of the finished product. At least it survived the junk yard.

Re: i finally did it

For what it's worth....the white rubber in those tires contains alumina. I used to work for ALCOA and we sold an alumina-based product to the industry to be used in making white rubber.

Of course, similar products went to make toothpaste, handles for power tools, abrasives and dinnerware.

Re: i finally did it

How did you keep them round like that? I would think they would be jagged edges and sloppy from the grinder. I also did not know there was white under there...

i used a grinding wheel and it works fine as long as you dont overheat it, the metal buffing pad will smear it nomatterwhat, i used it to clean it up a bit but just didnt touch the black
