Leaded or Unleaded
I bought a 69 about a month ago and need to know what to do reguarding gas. It has the original motor set up for leaded gas. Will running unleaded damage the valves/heads? I never thought about it before I bought the truck.

Re: Leaded or Unleaded
Need hardened valve seats. The lack of lead in todays gas will help destroy the valve seats in heads not designed for unleaded fuels. It's a gradual deteriation of the seat, not an overnight thing.

Re: Leaded or Unleaded
Last I heard, they still sell an additive that may help prevent this damage. "Instead-a-lead" or something like that.

Re: Leaded or Unleaded
Yeah they still have it in the auto parts stores. A quart of it treats something like a couple hundred gallons, IIRC. When I tore down my original 72 350 the valve seats were destroyed from the previous owner running unleaded.
