early 70's large hub look

I'm installing 77 3/4 axles in my 67 3/4 ton but the hubs don't look as big diameter as the earlyer 70's year hubs , will the early hubs fit on thes axles (if I find some in the future), I like the beefier look of the early 70's, thanks.

Re: early 70's large hub look

the 67 was closed knuckle, right? If so then I doubt it.... Put a dana60 under it and you might be good...

Re: early 70's large hub look

The chrome-rimmed/blue centered lock-outs were used from 69-75 and won`t fit those axles/hubs.

You would have to change out the spindel and the out side shaft but it will bolt to the newer knuckel.

Re: early 70's large hub look

I think he is talking about going from internal to external lockouts and wanting to change it all from the knuckel out if he finds some.

Re: early 70's large hub look

The smaller internal style lockouts that were used on open knuckle half tons and all later model axles are a much better stronger design than the old (bigger) external style. The internal lockouts transfer the power from the shaft to the wheel hub through a set of internal splines in the wheel hub. The external style transfer the power through the bolts that hold the lockout to the wheel hub and have a problem with the bolts coming loose.

Re: early 70's large hub look

Yes, I like the 69 to 75 look, with the crome rim like va tlc's picture. I just got my $325.00 3/4 ton parts truck home (1977), for my 67 3/4 ton.I will use these axles for now because I need to get rid of these closed knuckle axles. But I will still look for the 3/4 ton 71 to 75 axles with disc brakes. thanks everybody.
