Well, I finally got by the honeydew list and actually got some work done on the projects this weekend.... I had a rear seal leaking on the '67 so I thought it would be a good time to swap rear ends and put the 3.07 in it to replace the 3.73, new brake lines, wheel cylinders, & shoes. The shoes that were on it weren't that old but had a lot of cracks in them. (see pics) Any Idea what would cause that? I think they were the cheaper ones but still shouldn't do that.... Reason for the swap is to drop the RPMs on the 454 and hopefully help the MPG too. I also got the Demon Carb back on the '39 Ford after the factory rebuild (that will be another thread) & put the new stainless grille bars and chrome center bar on it. Looks pretty sharp with them, but I'm not sure it's 300 bucks worth of sharp.. (keeps repeating -It's only money, you can't take it with you..) Now I need to figure out a different way to mount the tranny cooler behind the grille, to make it look better. Anyway....

Before I left for GA for the weekend, I was able to get enough of my vintage air kit hooked up so I could fire the truck up for the first time in 3 weeks. I did a big smokey to celebrate (although one wheel is a bit of an embarassment ) Just need to finish the wiring and charge the system

what year cars have that 3.07 rear end, I would love to drop thr RPM's on my 68 chevy truck also. Hate it when RPM's are high and cars are still flying by you.

This one came out of a '70 Chevy Pickup. It had a 350ci motor but I don't remember what tranny. I'll find out.

Nice progress... I got my box painted, lights put in, bumper on, rear pinion seal replaced, new trans speedo gears put in, temp sender working and a new steering wheel put on.

are you sure? cause mine was a three on the tree and I'm still using the same rear end. I have a 305 from an 83 monte carlo and a 350 tranny in it now. So could rear ends be different size from factory with 3 speed, I always thought they would be the same size rear end because of the 3 speed tranny. Now as far as what motor mine had I don't know cause when I bought it, it had an old 350 in the bed of the truck and the dude told me that the motor in the bed isn't the stock motor. So therefore, I'm thinking of changing rear end to a 3.07 gear ratio or just installing a 700R4 or maybe do both. What do you think, do both or just either one?

Pretty sure, the guy I got the truck from was the second owner, (his mom bought it new). I'd say do what ever you come across first, at a reasonable price. I think the 3.07 would be a little steep with the 700r4 in it...

If you're not sure what ratio your rear axle is there is a code stamped into the axle tube (see pics) and you can go here and look it up in the "axle" section. If your truck originally came with a six cyl it probably would have had a lower geared rear end.
