R&R Time with my`72 GMC

Monday a week ago they were calling for 95 deg. and before my son got away for a visit to his mom I thought a paddle trip on the Shenendoah was in order. My brother-in-law(Paul)had put my camera in a dry bag and didn`t tell me until we took out. So,I figured I`d snatch a couple shots of the Sierra doing it`s job helping us enjoy ourselves while I still have it.The day changed about 1/2 way through the trip with hellacious thunderstorm coming up on us.We had to pull out and get up under some rocks in an attempt to shelter ourselves. It rained so hard and things went from hot to chilly quick.Something to help remember the trip,I hope for my son.

Great pictures, I like to see pictures of pickups in nature settings.

I have the same type mirrors on my 92 GMC K-3500, they work great when towing a travel trailer.

Tim,
That wouldn't be the low water bridge at the canoe livery in Bentonville,
would it? A large group of guys from Roanoke used to do a 3 day float on the river and that large field in the background was our final camp..........those were the days

Very cool, Tim. A weekend to remember for sure! That first pic with the fog in that distant valley is framin quality, man. I wouldn't sell that truck if it's the one in the signature.

Re: R&R Time with my`72 GMC

Yup!Bentonville on the Massanutten side across from the outfitter.Paul lives in Rileyville and we put in at Compton. This was his 9th run this year.He wanted to see what this stretch was like with thewater gettin`low. It was still doable. We only had to push on the little diversions around a couple islands. He(we) basically usually run from up(down?)at Luray. Those are end of the year boats the outfitters sell.Anyone ever hear of The Nighthawks? He`s Paul Bell, the lead guitar player.Great guy!
Thanks for the compliments on the wheels, truck, mirrors, and framing. It`s been pretty clear and less humid this year. It`s a shame it was hazed for ya,Luke.Just this past weekend was beautiful blue skies and just the right "hot".Spring and fall are best for clarity. But,the fall colors make it a cluster fuch on Skyline Drive.
Do you guys know that Compton is the site of the oldest indian site known in the US?It`s also the deepest spot on the river,50'.It`s a cool spot where the river bends against a layered rock cliff and looks like a quarry.Great swimming hole. The current kinda takes a break there in the pool.
I need to change the bumper.Truck has new brakes. That`s from when it didn`t...OOPS!!
Oh,and I ordered camper/trailering stainless mirrors on my`92 also,cuz I like those "truck" mirrors.I put them on an`84 K30 I had,too.

Nice lookin truck. Did you add the 67/68 tail gate, or was it already there when you got it?

Re: R&R Time with my`72 GMC

It was on it.Never had trim. The truck has a 5th wheel mount and all set up for towing a camper by the p.o.I geuss the original got lost or?I have a new take-off correct gate(w/trim)for it if I ever painted the truck. The truck is out of Modesto,CA.I painted the medium blue like the glovebox door just to help the letters stand out a bit.

Re: R&R Time with my`72 GMC

Talk about sites. We saw a little bunny rabbit swimming across a wide spot in the river. He looked like it was no big deal.Damndest thing I`ve ever seen.I didn`t think they even liked water!
You can see alot of fall colors from Rt.11,Rt.340,or any other county road. You just gotta look up at the mountain instead of down from it.The worst thing for me is getting across the bridge at Riverton into Front Royal.Must be a p.i.a. for locals that just needed a loaf of bread.

I've floated a canoe under that bridge when it was low and have had to get 5 or six fellow floaters to carry a fully loaded canoe over the road to the other side; lotta fun it was; used to put in at Kelly's point Grocery on a thursday, due a short float and camp at the 'dunes', then a little longer float and camp at Compton's rapaids on friday and a long float on saturday to the low water bridge; there are some carp in that river as big as humans

Re: R&R Time with my`72 GMC

Yeah there are some bigguns. They were jumpin`and swirlin`that day.I saw a couple big carp swirls. We want to do a camping trip in August,if there`s water for it,when my son gets back from his mom`s.
And,about the truck.I just put the new bumper on this evening.Guess I need to go back for a better picture
