Wash Mitt

My friend is a custom painter & after he painted my sons truck he said NEVER wash it with a mitt.He uses a chamois.I tried it yesterday & it works real well.His reasoning is that a mitt will catch any grit & hold it in to scratch the paint whereas a chamois will rinse any grit off when you dunk it in the wash bucket.

When I wash any of our vehicles I use a method I read in a motorcycle mag several years ago. I use a regular car wash sponge and dip it in my soapy water. After wiping/cleaning whatever body panel I'm on, I spray/rinse the sponge with a hose. After rinsing the sponge I wring it out before putting it back in the soapy water. This gets whatever dirt/debris you just wiped off of your ride off the sponge before it goes back in your soapy water. This doesn't add that much time to the cleanup and the water in the bucket will still be clear when you are done with the wash job. If the water is clear, you know you aren't just rubbing that dirt and grit you got off the paint right back in to it.
