Smile 1 ton dually

I have recently became the proud owner of a 1972 C-30 1-ton Chevy flatbed truck. It appears that it left the factory as a non-dually truck and someone retro fitted it to a dually. The problem is that the front wheels are not a match to the rear and it appears that I will need to change the front rotors to accomodate using the dually type wheel similar to that found on the rear end. Can anyone provide the details of what this entails? On a second thought depending on the cost of the conversion parts I have entertained converting the truck to 4x4, using a later model Dana 60 in the front end. What years are the best for this type of conversion to get the correct springs, mounting hardware and steering box? Thanks for any tips.

Wheels and rotors would be all that's needed to swap to the dually front wheels.

Thanks for the greeting Yukon Jack. I have been a sideline observer of this site for several years and with the purchase of my latest project I wanted to seek the expertise of others with the same type of vehicle. I currently own a completed 72 4x4 SWB which is my hunting rig (I have owned this vehicle since 1988), a 72 4x4 SWB project (not started/possible show rig lol), a partially completed in progress 71 SWB 4x4 and now this 72 C-30 dually.I am really leaning towards converting it to 4x4 especially after seeing your friends C-30.I have been a fan of these vehicles since owning a brand new one in 1972. I guess that gives my approx. age away huh lol. I am looking forward to your site's input as I move forward with this project. Thanks again.

I say make it a 1 ton 4wd dually! I have my eye on a 67 C30,I would love to make it a 4wd.Just need to find a dana 60 for under a grand...

I would speculate the spindle would be the same. However, I would verify that.
Running a P/N check on the seal and both bearings would be a good starting point if no one here can say for sure.

Welcome,friend.I would recommend grabbing the complete assembly from the ball-joints out(knuckles).Whether parts there are the same or not,I think that would be the best way to nab the budd wheel set-up.Look in salvage yards or on our parts board.
Going 4wd is a hefty sized can`o`worms.Not compareable to converting to budd front wheels.For that,you`ll want a donor truck to steal it all off of.
