3 on the Tree Swap to Automatic
Hey everyone! I am new member and I currently have a 1969 C10 Shortbed pickup "Project" with a 350 small block and the original 3 speed on the column. I already have a 400 turbo transmission and I recently purchased a 1971 automatic steering column to use. I am also considering getting rid of the 2 piece driveshaft at the same time. My question is what else do I need to get ready for the swap? I have heard I need a new crossmember and linkage, but I need more details and photo's if anyone has any.
Thanks for any feedback you can give me!! |

Re: 3 on the Tree Swap to Automatic
Welcome! I used to live in Clayton (then Garner, then Graham...) so I had to respond. I am in the process of doing the swap myself (collecting parts anyways) - I have the auto column, auto crossmember and T400 - I still need to get the linkage for the 400, there's a post of one for sale in the parts section - I think it's under big block stuff or something like that - (I'm too cheap to pay for one right now). I believe you'll also need a new rag joint as they are different... not sure on that one as I am also adding power steering...
You can buy from the parts section but you can't sell or ask to buy unless you join up.. (best $25 you'll spend on your truck). If you start it, post pics as you go along.... Good Luck! Forgot to add, go to the home page, look for FAQs (not from the header at the top but the Home page) - scroll down to the FAQs - then look for the one that's a composite list of FAQs - you'll find change over stuff in there.

Re: 3 on the Tree Swap to Automatic
I would be more than happy to become a site supporter? How much is it and how do I sign up? Also, thanks to everyone for being so helpful with photo's and advice on what I need for this transition from the straight shift to automatic. I already have spoke to the guy with the cross memeber and I am going to pick that up from him.
So, you have the linkage I will need and possibly a drive shaft to convert to using just one? |

Re: 3 on the Tree Swap to Automatic
You have to be a subscriber to post threads requesting parts in the parts board and business isnt to be conducted in the main board so....that would explain why GMC AMI posted that..
