Re: Tailgate

If you dont mind a 73-87 gate, I have seen alot of them running around here with them. They look ok at best but are usually really cheap. So if you dont mind the gate not matching the truck that is an option. Oh if you do that grab the upper and lower hinges as they changed a couple of times over the years. As for finding a good 67-72 gate in good shape cheap, good luck. Most have been scooped up by us restorers years ago. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Re: Tailgate

Back in the day a truck was used as a truck and a lot of tailgates had a hard life. Many were bent. In salty areas they rusted away.... Not a whole lot of good ones left.....

Stepsides on the other hand, they were the same from 55-87, so there's still lots to choose from and the repop ones actually fit well

Re: Tailgate

I'm willin to bet if you were a subscriber, and did a WTB, you could get a beater tail gate within 100 miles, and it would be 50 bucks or less.
I'm even willing to bed some one would give you there beater gate.
I know I just gave mine away.

Re: Tailgate

jamie... I got one from a board member agout a year ago... he's in minnisota... I can never remember his screen name. It is CHERRY! I'll post pics tonight. The ONLY flaw, is a small bullit hole.
he posted it in the parts board for 75 bucks, I nabbed it sight unseen (dealt with him before) and he even delivered it from MN to Toledo ohio (thanks again cheesewagon) Tom kept it at his place for a year untill the planets were aligned perfectly... I had my sister's car (07 yota) for a week and she told be to go get my gate.
Hewasn't blowin any smoke at all, this gate is cherry. 79 - 72 GMC too... so the transformation to GMC is complete now.
Now I just need to paint the gate.

Sorry fellow board brothers. In no means am I trying to steer this gentleman away from any possibilities here. I am in this area and thought I would lend a helping hand. This board and its members has always had what I have needed and if not, they found it for me.

Hey Fellow Ordy,
If time permits, try to journey an hour and a half torward El Centro and try all of those junk yards. They are off of Highway 78 and torward the back of El Centro area. Now, if your desperate then I am sure there is one here in the Desert empire. BY chance did you try Highway 67 junk yard there in San Diego? Good luck and I will keep an Eye out for you.
Your fellow Ordnanceman

One more thing,
July 1st, there is going to be a Car swap and shop show at the Qualcom stadium. It will cost 5 bucks to get in. You might get lucky and find one there. They feature allot of 67-72 parts there. Here is a phone number to a vendor whom will be there and you can pre-call these guys and see if they will bring a tailgate up to the show for you.The Vendors name is ARROWHEAD TRUCKS PARTS INC, 800) 821-9291. Give these guys a call and see if they can get you a tailgate. Remember, Classic Industries is in Huntington beach there in LA in case you feel like that route.

Re: Tailgate

Hello to eveyone here in this thread.
I had posted pretty hastilly when I read his post and didn't realize you all were helping this lad out. I hope I haven't upset anyone and I sure didn't mean to steel the thread or thunder from anyone. Sorry about that all. I was just trying to help my fellow Ordy out. Good luck and I hope he finds his tailgate.

Re: Tailgate

you can get a new tailgate from LMC that is not stamped really cheap and it looks really clean without the letters stamped in it.
