Would it hurt...

Would it be alright to put the sm465/rockwell in the frame now without the motor in or should I wait till the motor is ready and then install it all? If I do put the 465/Rockwell in should I support the front of the transmission with something or will the t-case being bolted down to the torque bracket and then the 2 bolts through the crossmember be enough? I'm trying to get the shop cleaned out and the old rockwell and 465 are taking up room. So,I thought why not put them in now and get them out of the way.I decided against swapping the 205 in,dont want any more transmissions and transfer cases taking up room and what I have is going to be used..

Re: Would it hurt...

Dustin, when I pulled the old 350 to put in the 454 I left the 465 and rockwell in place. With the T-case bolts to frame and 465 0n the crossmember it seemed to remain very solid. I worked well for me. Motor was out for about a month.
both drive shafts were out.

Yeah, put it in.Motors come out all the time and no one touches the trans or transfer case. It`s the other way around that takes putting support under the back of the engine when a trans is removed.I never do this stuff as a unit.I install each component individually.I can`t imagine my engine hoist supporting an engine/trans/t-case.

Yeah it'll be fine. My tranny and t-case have been hanging for a month already, just bolted to the crossmember, and no issues yet.

Re: Would it hurt...

Ok,So I think Im going to put them in.Another question...Does the rockwell/sm465 mount using the same bolts thread, size, and length wise as the 205?

Re: Would it hurt...

1/2" bolts on both... 3.5-4" on the tranny I think and shorter on the torque arm....

Re: Would it hurt...

I reused my bolts from the rockwell with the 205 with no problems.
