H-pipe?
I'm thinking of adding a H-pipe to my truck. I have headers, dual 2.5" pipe, and 40 seires Delta Flow flowmasters on it. The exhaust ends above and infront of the rear axle. It sounds pretty good right now, and is plenty loud. Will the H-pipe make is sound any better, louder, or quieter? Also, would it give me a little gain in horsepower?

The h pipe will quiet the system just a bit, & it will have a more "tuned" sound. It will add some power to the low & midrange, & shouldnt hurt the topend power. if you get some cheap paint, & squirt a line on the pipes after the header collectors, then run it for a while you will be able to see where the paint stops burning. That will be the optimum point to install the pipe. good luck.....crazy AL

Crazy AL has it... The ideal way to do it, is not to run a "H" pipe. It's to bend the exhaust tubing until it just touches each other, Then cut where they touch, and weld them together. The idea behind it is it will smooth out the sound waves and break up in the exhaust the off set firing order from the engine. It REALLY makes a difference in the sound, Smooths and toughens it. I seen a very nice kit in one of the parts catalogues, very "SANO". It was rather expensive though.

Yes, the X pipe is newer technology, & a better way to go! they will be a little harder to fit, especially to an already existing system.....but from what i have read, worth the extra cash/trouble.

I added an H pipe to a 2 1/2 inch exhaust system with 40 series flowmasters dumping at the axles once out of a fairly large cammed motor. Had it removed a week later. Hated the sound! It took a nice throaty pulsing sound and turned it into a constant drone.
