how to remove/tighten the ignition bezel in the dash
I have a 1971 c10 that ive been working on for awhile now and i pulled everything off the dash like the cluster and radion and heater controls so i can paint everthing from green to orange and i was wondering how i remove the igniton from the dash becaujse i dont want to get orange paint all over the key hole and chrome trim ring thing ..i got it alil bit loose by twisting it around but now if you try to start it you have to hold the back peice because it just spins the whole assembly in the dash..so my question is how do i remove the assembly and how do i tighten it back down once its completly out ..thanks ahead of time,

Re: how to remove/tighten the ignition bezel in the dash
Link worked for me, but what you need to do is put in your key, turn all the way to ACC and the stick a paperclip or similar tool into the small hole on the lock cylinder itself and once you overcome the spring tension inside there, turn it more counter-clockwise and the key assembly comes out.
Fomr there you can easily remove the bezel / ign. switch. To tighten it do the opposite. |

Yeah, My internet provider screwed up the link to the other web page and I don't have it fixed yet but you don't need it for what you are doing.

Re: how to remove/tighten the ignition bezel in the dash
I just went through this myself.
You have to have the key. Turn it to "ACC" (CCW) Take a paper clip or something really tiny to stick in that hole so that you can push the locking mechanism down and out of the way. You should be able to pull the barrel out then you can turn the beauty ring to get the switch out. My old ignition switch had no problems falling out. When I replaced it I had to learn the hard way that there was a locking feature. Hope this helps...
