Engine Swap

Has anybody here ever installed a 4.3 litre Vortec in one of these trucks, or know anyone that has? I may have access to a complete engine. Including the A/C compressor, PS pump, alternator, intake, exhaust, all wiring, pulleys, and starter. Pretty much everything except a tranny.
Has it been done? If so, how did it work out?

Re: Engine Swap

it crosses my mind alot shouldn't be anything to it , other than the fuel injection stuff. it's pretty much a small block with a couple cylinders lobbed off

Re: Engine Swap

It sounds like it's something you want to do, so do your homework first. I'm gonna be a horse's butt and say you probably won't like it in the long run. I have a 350 in my '69 and my '96 GMC has a 4.3 Vortec. Honestly, the mileage isn't much better than the 4.7 in my Tundra, maybe by 1 or 2MPG. The '69 is a lot more fun. While having the V-6 in the early model looks kinda neat, it still ain't a V-8. I think you could get more bang for the buck by simply building a 292 inline six. You could get a Clifford Research intake and headers for it, add a hotter cam and give some of the V-8's a real fit.
