Another K30 followed me home
Bid on 3 trucks at Letterkenny (Chambersburgh, Pa.) by GL (Government Liquidators) and was high bidder on an M1008 (K30 HD 1 ton 4x4 6.2 Diesel Auto fleetside pickup) radio truck, 74K original. Looked like the batteries had exploded, so its wiring was suspect. Picked it up thursday. Today, cleaned off all the battery acid, removed the old batteries, put in the new ones from the M1028, and alas, IT RUNS! So, not only did I get a CUCV with 4 new tires, a good interior, all original wiring intact!, and a good bed, but I got one that runs and moves under its own power! Got a few looks when I drove it to the Sunoco for fuel but it was worth it. Truck has a lot of under carraige rust, no brakes, but for the mileage and the age and my purpose it is a better deal than I thought!. Just thought I'd share because it doesn't always turn out for the better, usually the other way.
BTW, i actually went and looked at all the CUCVS both times before I bid on them. I talked to to guys picking up 2 of the other trucks and I take it that a lot of people DON'T look before they bid. Now I realize why 6 of 7 went for the same price, even though there was such a large variation in the condition, they couldn't have all been looked at before bidding on

Re: Another K30 followed me home
The looks you were getting, were people grabbing their kids and running?
Nice catch you got. Congrats on the win.

Sweet ride...
Here at Fort Hood we have those things everywhere, many still in use. Blazers, K10s, K30s, the whole bit. I love it. And then there's a lot with a bunch of abandoned ones just sitting... wish I could figure out how to buy them from the government and sell them!

Here is how you buy these. Go to: http://www.govliquidation.com/terms.html
and type in 4x4 or Chevrolet or 5/4 ton in the search sction. That's how I found the two I have.

Re: Another K30 followed me home
The Army Trucks and Blazer are pretty common here in Germany and the Diesel Engines work nice!
I think the trucks are not worth to be taken back to the states when the US forces leave, right?! Besides that they are pretty expensive when you want to get one here! |

Re: Another K30 followed me home
The first CUCV I bought, the M1028A1, which has a NP205 tranfer case instead of the NP208, and has only 6700 miles on it, was shipped back from Kuwait. Still has the markings on it.
