72 A Arm bushings

I was going to press the bushings out and discovered they are a screw in type, they don't have any rubber in them. I wanted to put poly bushings in the A arms. Is it still possible? I know this style (all metal) lasted a long time originally. I'm looking for an improvement. Is it possible to put poly bushings in this style A arm. What is your opinion? If it's a pain to do, I just might need to go tubular . It's not much more once you compair the prices of all the bushings and ball joints to rebuild the stock A arms to tubular. Another thing is they come powder coated and assyembled.
Thanks
Alan

Re: 72 A Arm bushings

They don't make poly bushings for pre-73 because they aren't needed. The pre-73 bushings are screw-in rubber-lined steel sleeves & don't offer much deflection. This is why 6X~72's tend to have a rougher ride vs. a similar 73-up truck.

73-up arms w/press-in bushings can be swapped in & then you could upgrade to poly bushings since they are offered for these years, or you can go the tubular route & use either kind of bushing.

What do you hope to gain from poly bushings?

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Thanks for the help. I was under the impression that poly would give a better and more responsive ride. I'm just going to rebuild the ones I've got now.
