The rear driveshaft isnt long enough

The truck had a previous lift so I figured with the lift I went with (was not as tall as previous lift) that I wouldnt have to lengthen the rear driveshaft.Its not very much to short,but enough that it wont work.Im taking the overload spring out of the spring pack tomorrow lowering the truck about an inch,maybe that will lower it enough it will work.If not,then I guess I will have to have it lengthened...Front isnt long enough either,although I know its too short,its from a truck with a rockwell,not a np205.Do you think a rear driveshaft from a mid 70s short k10 will be long enough to work?Can get the whole truck for what it would cost to have the current rear driveshaft lengthened..

Nope...I went back out and managed to get it hooked up but it isnt pretty.You can see splines where the driveshaft extends...I am going to have one lengthened but this one will work for now...

I almost shouldnt of even bothered putting the driveshaft on,there is still 3-4 inches of spline left in there you cant see though.
Now out to cut a hole in the floor and install the cab permanently!

dustin that stinks man.. but have you priced out a new custom built driveshaft? i didnt either, well until i had to go get some bolts from a machine shop that makes driveshafts also, well i asked and he figured up around 250 bucks and thats with new yokes and u joints also, i had a friend lenghten mine with a new u joint and that cost 160... wish i had just went on with a new one if only id known first... ohh and thats all new tubing too

yea the first one i had done.. diffrent than the last lol was only 40 bucks, this time my u joint was like 30 bucks too, so still i had about 130 in just payin the labor this time.... darn inflation...

Driveshaft shops do nice work up here and have dirt cheap prices.

If your splined stub & yoke are in good shape, I'd retube it. If they are shot, try to find one without wear out of a long box. It's the cheapest to shorten one since you are not buying tubing. If you do tube it, make sure the shop uses Spicer tubing. Neapco tubing is junk, their tubing isn't straight. Most of the better shops stay away from it.

Jeff`s right.The shop I use will only use Spicer.That`s pretty much OEM.

i used a 72 3/4 ton shaft in the wifes and just shortend it(it has 3/4 axles)
it cost me $35.00

That sounds cheap enough.Is the place around where you are? I can install u joints so that isnt a issue,I just want to leave the lengthening or shortening of it to a professional.I'd like to have the current one lengthened.I just installed new u joints on it..

I've got a LWB half ton driveshaft out in the shop I'd give you to shorten if you were closer/local Dustin.
