Help! Just Blew a Fuse? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

The other day I was driving listening to the radio when it just stopped working. When I got home I checked the fuse and it was blown. So I pulled it out it was a 20 or 25a fuse. According to the block and manual it should be a 3a. So I replaced a new 3a fuse in the block turned the key on and blew it instantly. I unpluged the radio lead wire from the fuse block to see if it was coming from the radio itself and it still blew the fuse as soon as the key was turned on. Not sure where to go from here im no electrician just the basics if that. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

you need to physically trace that wire inch by inch till you find the bare burned spot where its shorted to the dash or firewall

What other items stopped working? Your trouble will be in one of those. I can't remember off the top of my head what all is on that fuse.

I haven't noticed anything else not working at this point. All the other fuses are ok it just this one.

Have you got a Volt/Ohm Meter that you can use to test for continuity? If so you can verify a direct short to ground by hooking the black lead to a known good ground and connecting the red lead to the 'dry' side of the fuse holder(One side will be hot with the ignition on, the dry side will be hot only when a good fuse is installed). If you see any thing other than an open circuit, you'll have to physically trace that wire and see where it's shorting to ground.
