Got a 4spd trans in my truck with the granny gear. It will grind gears if i try to put it in low or reverse but the others dont grind. if i shift into first then put it in low or reverse they dont grind. anybody know how to fix this?

I don't think the granny gear or reverse is synchronized, but I may be wrong.

I only used to ever grind trying to shift whilst moving with mine. From a stop reverse was smooth and dead low was shifted with a very small clunk. It was however rebuilt about a year before I brought it by the P.O. I think that clutch adjustment makes a huge difference as well. The gearbox in the C30 grinds every gear even with the new clutch in it and adjusted, its just plain worn out after 28 years and i'm guessing bad driving by the P.O.

shouldnt double clutching keep them from grinding?

Not necessarily. While sitting still, shift into high gear (3rd for you) before shifting into L or reverse. That should minimize the grinding. Shifting gears with no syncros takes some getting used to, gotta get used to the "feel" of where the gears are.

my clutch has less than 20,ooo on it..and if sitting still it will grind granny and reverse....but if i shift it into neutral,,then shove the clutch back in,,it will shift smooth..

Just make sure that the truck is stopped, and that you give the transmission a few moments to stop spinning after you release the clutch. If it keeps spinning, then you need to adjust your clutch a bit so the disk totally disengages
