TBI or TPI?
Which one is better for our Blazers? Saw this in the classifieds:
Complete Motor from a 1986 Pontiac Trans-Am GTA. 350 Includes Alternator, AC Compressor, Distributor, All Pulleys, Serpentine Belt, Computer, etc. $500.00

I still don't know why you're looking for new motors when the one you have is perfectly okay. If you are going to replace your motor save up and do it right, no sense in doing everything twice.

TPI is the better choice I think. Especially if you are going wheel hard. I know alot of guys who have bought the TPI system from Holley. Most like it.

True true...it's not so much that I want the motor, I want the TPI setup and $500 isn't a bad deal for all of that. The other 350 I posted about was more for Mario since he has a dirtbike that I "thought" he wanted to get rid of that the guy would have traded for. I'm with you though, once I get this one going and get it the way I want it, I wanna go the route you did and save up to buy a good solid crate. I wanna be able to trust this thing enough to take it on long road trips.

$500 not a bad deal. It'll have a one piece rear main FYI. I got a TPI off an 96 305 car last month. Complete minus the MAF for $100.
TPI is a great setup for 4x4. Get a later small cap distributor and it fits easy. 86 should bolt to any old school SBC since it does not have the redesign intake bolts of the 87 up motors.

Thanks for the heads up on the motor blizz, but i know that the motor in blue thunder runs pretty well, (once jtrux gets over here and gets it running again). I do want to get rid of the dirt bike, but i want the $1000 bucks instead. BTW, jtrux if you're reading this i replaced the coil and the module in the dist and double checked the wiring. just need a timing light and an extra pair of hands. As far as your set up, i would do the compression test on it first and dial in the carb. Alot cheaper than blowing $500 bucks on a used motor. lets see when we can get together and knock it out.

Either/Or really.
Simple answer is that TBI is an easier system to install and maintain. Don't forget the fact that you'll need to run an entirely different fuel pump set up, either a frame mount pump which can be loud and inefficient or an internal tank pump like the factory ran. |

TPI is way cool looking, they were originaly designed to make the 305 perform. It did a great job by making lotsa low end torque. On the 350 it falls a bit short. For cool looks and a decent amount of power I'ld go with th tpi. If you want more than about 325 hp, then tbi is the less expensive way to go. To get big power out of tpi is big bucks. TBI is just a $500 throttle body and $150 prom to match your engine.
