Re: I think a tornado hit my trucks!

It's been slow- goin doing things the hard way, but I'm determined to get this thing done in time for the meet. Hopefully I'll have enough cash left for gas, this truck ain't no sipper! Here's what I started with (as some of you already know)

That's the way my yard would look if there weren't city ordinances. Fortunately for my neighbors there are and good thing I am married too, she keeps it from piling up.

Ordinances? what ordinances

Neighbors? they have junk that never moves

Wife? she left over a year ago

Seriously, I picked up the mess before calling it a day. The cab is still on the ground though. I plan on putting up a "fence corral" soon to keep stuff in. Not that it matters much, I only have two neighbors, and their houses are on the other side of mine, & they have "treasures" like me. A creek & trees on one side, pasture on another, road & abandoned RR right of way on the other. Things are pretty lax here, yet not horribly junky. One of the reasons I bought this place instead of in St. Joe. I hear all kinds of stories how Joetown will pick on one guy with next to nothing in his yard, while 3 houses down will have dead cars, furniture, construction debris, etc that hasn't moved for decades- and they leave him alone

Re: I think a tornado hit my trucks!

Well, progress has been terrible. I got the gas pedal mounted Monday, but forgot my square rattail file at work- kinda hard to make a square hole for the cable/ cab entry point without it. So I get that done Tuesday. I wanted to get the brake booster on, but go to pull out the pushrod dust boot from the firewall & it crumbles away in my fingers. So I find a rubber booty thing for an RV trailer receptacle that will work good on Wed. but it rains & I don't get anything done. Tonight I finally get the booster mounted, but when I go to put the MC on, I realize the little adjustable mushroom- head pushrod fell out of the booster! Stupid me, I carried it back & forth here & there so many times, it could be anywhere in the grass. An hour with a metal detector and nothing. I'm meeting up with some friends at a truck pull Friday, hopefully someone will grab one from a junker as I made a few calls tonight. Crazy thing is mine will show up shortly after getting a replacement, probably in my dog's mouth looking at me thru the front door

So much for driving it to the meet

Re: I think a tornado hit my trucks!

I ended up skippin' the meet so I could keep going on this thing. REALLY wanted to go, but after years of getting nothing done on my truck, I wanted to keep going while I have the ambition to do it. Here's a pic of the progress with my friend Bob & I. He's the better- looking older guy

Re: I think a tornado hit my trucks!

The truck looks great! I thought it would look to tall with the suspension and body lift but it doesnt look too tall.Does it still have the 4" suspension and 3" body lift?

Re: I think a tornado hit my trucks!

Thanks... 3" body lift, 4" blocks in the back and '59 IH 1 ton front springs with 2 leafs removed. The front springs give about 2-1/2" to 3" of lift. I'll probably end up pulling the 4" rear blocks, and going with 2" or 2-1/2" blocks to level it out a little.

Re: I think a tornado hit my trucks!

It's together far enough that I took it down the road & back. Major nasty bumpsteer with the 4" steering arm on it yet. These pics show how high the rear is. I still have some work to do, but it is nice to see it as a truck again!

Re: I think a tornado hit my trucks!

I started swapping out my 4" lift blocks for 2". I cut the U-bolts, raised up the truck... and broken leaf springs came raining to the ground. They were busted behind the U-bolts where I didn't see it. The eye bolts are seized in the bushings & I don't have a torch, so I have to dice them up with a cutoff wheel to get them out of the hangers. So much for a quick & cheap block swap.

I have a set of 56" 8- leafs out of a Cali truck that are really nice with new bushings i'll use. More work moving the rear hangers, but less money than buying new 52". I'm thinking the 8 leafs might not need a block under them, and should ride OK since they are 4" longer. And with overloads, my tires should blow out before the springs bottom out if I haul heavy loads with it

Re: I think a tornado hit my trucks!

LOOKS great, nice job. I'm thinking about doing that to a truck I'm trying to buy.
