350 heads with captains bars, Anything special?

A friend of mine is giving me an old 350 he has laying around. He thinks the heads are something special, because they have captains bars on the lower inside area twards the head and intake sealing surfaces. Any possibility of winding up with something special, or just another plain jane 350? I was not able to get casting numbers, too much junk on top of the motor.

That looks like some useful information, however when there is a bunch of question marks around half of the information he listed, it makes me wonder how accurate any of it is.

Get the casting numbers from both the engine block, and the heads. Thats the only way to be sure what it is.

the suffix on the block was WM,(V0507WM) which comes out to 69 307 or 350 out of a c20-c30. The block is a 3970010, with the large harmonic balancer. I could not read the date code

It would have to be a 350 with the casting # and the wm on the pad the 3970010 is a 302,327 or 350 block.
If the 2 bars are just square on top there nothing special if there rounded on top then thy might be the 186 heads and there great heads. Really need the casting# to be sure though.

The guys stuff is accurate. The question marks maybe from his computer programming. This same stuff has been listed in several magazines. You can also try this website. No pics but it has all the casting #'s. http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm

My dad works at an auto parts store, and he gave me sheets telling what codes on blocks and heads belong to what years, and what size motors, it's been right all the time, if that casting is right you should have a 67-70 2-bolt main that uses gasket type sparkplugs if the heads are origional.

sorry, I guess that doesn't really help you I guess, since it doesn't tell you if they're good heads or not, just if their origional heads....

IRC, they were square. This motor seems like it isn't even worth the gas to drive the 40 miles to get it.
