72 Blazer Doors
Looks like at least my driver side door is pretty bad off........may repair if I can find a couple of good corners to splice in but looking to replace them at this time. I have a set of pretty cherry 67 truck doors I can use. Whats yalls opinion on this dilema? I also have the steel door panels for th 67 doors that are in pretty good shape....no arm rest holes.

Save yourself the effort of repairing the rust and cut the 67 doors down. You can use the reinforcing plates and those weird little gizmos at the top of the blazer doors to make them just like the stock doors.

I had the 67 doors saved for this reason....hate to screw up this resto ...I guess one piece windows would look cool in the 67 doors too. Exactly what reinforcement plates do the k5 doors have that the truck doors dont?

The blazer doors have a plate around the latching mechanism on the back edge of the door. I may have a pic somewhere...

Well, there is a screw under the vent window too, I have it on my 70 Jimmy but not on my 69 blazer. I think it may even be on regular trucks. I didn't have any luck finding a pic of the latch plate.

The screw under the vent window was a 72 only door feature. It held the door skins together (as they were prone to separating there due to rough vent window use).
You may have a 72 door in your 70... I have one of each in my Blazer- Driver = non-72 Passenger = 72 |

Really? I don't remember that. I remember a small screw with a black bezel on one of the doors, but that isn't what the 72 doors look like. The screw is recessed into the door, at least that is what is on my 72.

Bouncy - you are correct - I think I have the afterthought mod of the black plastic piece and the screw (instead of the dimpled door with a screw).

Can you guys be more specific to the differences in the Blazer and truck doors or is there more specific info somewhere else?
I just realized today that both doors on my '71 have quite a bit of rust, top to bottom in the hinge area and the door bottoms. I was thinking that a truck door could be modified but wasn't sure if it was possible. Thanks

All Blazers and Jimmy's doors are originally truck doors that the factory cut down and modified for use on the K5's. They cut the tops, then added a "reinforcement plate" around the door latch mechanism (spot welded in place). They also added a small brass shim to the door and the B piller to help hold things in alignmnet. Most Blazers and Jimmy's I've seen back to 1970 had the addition of the tie-in screw below the inner side of the vent window to try to hold the inner and outer panels tighter together. That "tie-in" became standard on trucks in 72.
First year production is always a little different as the plants work out cheaper, quicker ways for manufacturing. The 67 trucks are very unique as are the 69 Blazers~~~not more valuable, better or worse---just a wee bit different then later models. ---Huck |
