Harmonic Balancer problem

Well I thought I had snagged the right balancer and I did but I forgot to compare the old and the new. On the old balancer the keyway slot and the timing mark are almost lined up. On the new balancer the timing mar is at about 10 degrees. Besides swapping the balancer is there another way to fix this?

Thanks

Re: Harmonic Balancer problem

At some time, GM moved the keyway on the crankshaft, creating your (and my)situation with new balancers on old engines, (or old balancers on new engines. I have a Goodwrench 350 in my truck, put in by a previous owner. The original balancer was then remarked with a new timing mark. It lines up with 0 at TDC.

Yep that is what I was thinking about doing. Something else that I found out tonight when looking at the balancers up at summit racing. I found that the 8 inch balancer would line up with my motor assuming that the picture is correct
After work tomorrow I will head out and get it to TDC then create a new mark.

Thanks
