rearend width

how much wider are the71 72 rearends than a 6 lug 67-70 rear end? or is it just the axle shafts that are longer?

Re: rearend width

3/8 inch per side, whole rear, not just the shaft.
67 - early 70...56 inches
late 70 - 72... 57 1/2 inches
As measured from backing plate to backing plate.

Re: rearend width

So I can put a 71-72 rearend under my 69 and not have any alignment issues?

Re: rearend width

that is correct. If the rear axle is put in square, then it won't matter what width you install, a rear out od a vega, or one out of a Freighliner. If it's square, it won't matter.

So the only thing I need to worry about is buying 5 lug axles and getting it converted to coil springs since it was converted to leafs

Re: rearend width

Anyone have the overall width (wheel to wheel) for these trucks handy? Would be good to know when looking at new wheels.
