Question Installation question for the flaming river column FR-2007.

I am installing the flaming river column made for our trucks.

Do you grind the "nipple or notch" from the factory mount or do you cut a hole in the column for the notch to fit into similar to the facory column?

Thanks for your replies,

Progress is slowly moving with my chevy project, but that is life, I guess.

The notch or nipple is on the top side of the column where the column slides into the mount. I don't have any pictures, sorry. The stock column has a square hole cut in it for the nipple to fit into.

Bill - does the FR column have a hole or a notch? I would think you would want to be as close to stock as possible. I would think the purpose is to keep the column from sliding forward or backward and from twisting left or right (say when at full turn when parking).

It does have a purpose and should be maintained - Bob

I agree with your statements, but I do not think there is any way to accurately put a hole in this column with my limited tools.

Thanks for everyone's replies.

Re: Installation question for the flaming river column FR-2007.

Bill - am I mistaken or would this take just a hole drilled in the jacket? Without measuring I would think a 5/16th or 3/8s hole would do the job.

How do you figure out where to locate the hole on the new column?
Once I drill that bad boy it is mine for keeps, you know what I mean?
Thanks for your assistance.

Re: Installation question for the flaming river column FR-2007.

I put in a FR-2003 column and was told to get the column set in place then tighten the mounting bracket and the nipple will make a dent in the column and prevent the column from moving back and fourth. So far I have noticed any problems, but the truck restoration is not finished yet.

Hope this Helps.....
