'51 fuel gauge problem

I just installed a new (original reproduction) fuel gauge on my '51 truck, as well as a brand new sending unit. All is 12 volt. When I turn on the ignition, the fuel needle jumps to the south (bottom side) of the gauge and never shows any fuel level. I've run a new wire from the sending unit, checked my grounds, etc., etc. Can anybody help me?

Thanks,

Gary Rose

Re: '51 fuel gauge problem

When you say South you mean to the left, what happens when you move the wires on the gauge from left to right, is the gauge infact a 12Volt and not a stock 6VDC. is the sending unit matched to the gauge (OHMS)
Just some thoughts!!
