Smile A\C Cab Swap

Hello I'm new to the site. Great info & pics! I just bought a 1966 Custom Cab longbed fleetside. The truck is a factory air cond. truck. I paid $200.00 for the truck and its rough! The cab is rusted in places i've never seen before. I have 8 60-66 parts trucks in the bone yard. My question is can I swap a non-a/c cab with my cab? Can I modify the firewall & dash for the factory A/C equipment, controls, & dash vents? It would take more work to repair the cab than its worth. Please Help! I will post some pics as soon as possible. THANKS.

Glad you made it here. Will you be doing the work yourself? Are you on a limited budget? That's a determining factor on my projects.
Good luck

Re: A\C Cab Swap

theres no reason u couldn't modify the firewall for whatever your needs as long as you have the correct tools and just take your time. is the dash in your 66 still good? maybe u could swap the dash over to the new cab.

Re: A\C Cab Swap

Hey Thanks guys! I will be doing the work myself. Just need some careful measurements. The steel dash is in excellent shape. I think there is an extra hole in the firewall but not sure. I am told the A/C trucks are rare. Does anyone know how many were made? Still waiting to get the pics. Thanks agian.

Sweeet! That would be great. Thanks. I have a big back window cab out back thats already stripped that I want to use to replace my cab. Just want to make sure this will work before I tear my truck apart.

Re: A\C Cab Swap

Welcome aboard from Kansas City, KS. I have several '64-'66 Chevy trucks. I suggest getting a 1960-1966 Chevy/GMC Factory Assembly Manual and a '1963 Chevy Truck Shop Manual and 1966 Supplement. These manuals provide the play-by-play of installing an A/C system, with factory components, including the necessary modifications to the firewall and dash. If you have a factory A/C dash, install it in your donor cab. This will make the modifications much easier. The factory firewall of each cab is dimpled at the two areas on the firewall that need openings. The manuals are very informative.

If you get to the Kansas City, KS area, look us up. We are at 560 S. 11th, Kansas City, KS

Good luck with your project and welcome aboard.

Tony

Re: A\C Cab Swap

Thank's guys. I'm going to order the manuels ASAP from LMC. If I'm in the area i'll look you up Lilred, don't make it that way much. Thanks for the tips. I might see you at a show sometime! I will try to get some pics this weekend. I don't have a shop at home so the truck is 30 miles away. I have to work on it when I can. Thank's Guys! Joe

Re: A\C Cab Swap

leave the ac stuff in place, you might want to hook it up later. get as many pieces as you can from the donor truck and store them away.
