camper special cam?
just picked up a motor out of a 77 chevy, van body camper....any chance this thing has a camper cam of some sort? I'm under the impression some of the older chevy trucks had some sort of "camper special"
when i picked it up the guy that loaded it went out of his way to tell me it seemed very strong when they were moving the thing around the junkyard.

Re: camper special cam?
Are you sure you don't mean "RV" cam? It is just a generic name for a cam that has slightly more lift and duration than a stock cam. If you really want to understand cams, i.e. duration, lift, lobe separation angle and how they affect performance, buy a book on building small block Chevy engines by David Vizzard, Smokey Yunick or John Lingenfelter...you can't go wrong.

Re: camper special cam?
I`ve seen backup cams on the big RVs.Alot of campers have had the came upgraded as well as headers and other performance mods.

Re: camper special cam?
oh beleive me I know my ignorance on cams is encyclopedic. but where I was coming from is "camper special" trucks. or at least that's what they always called them where i come from.
but they don't make too many books to tell you if it was common to have some sort of "rv" cam in an "rv". I guess I'll just have to wait till this weekend and see what it does

Re: camper special cam?
The Custom Campers had the same motors as all others.Whether a 6 or 8 you had to get an upgrade motor, not the base.
