Rear Shock Install?
I'm just about done installing the 4" lift. I still need to install the rear shocks.
Whats the trick to removing the top bolts? I've never seen shock mounts with the top bolt inside a cup like bracket. Theres not much room between the frame and the bed, but I guess thats the expected way to get to the bolt head? I guess you have to custom bend a wrench? Any experiences would be appreciated. Gary |

Re: Rear Shock Install?
Both bolts are loose on mine. It would make sense that the bolt its self would be fixed. That why I'm a little puzzled.
If push come to shove I'll cut them off and weld some bolts in. Gary |

Re: Rear Shock Install?
Hey Gary, are you going to bring the truck to cruise night when you get it done?

Re: Rear Shock Install?
Chuck,
Yep, I'll bring it up. It's not much to look at. Front bumper is bent, rockers and door bottoms have issues. It's like having an ugly baby, you see the potential.... Hows the custom camper coming? |

Re: Rear Shock Install?
Mine was loose on the drivers side and I couldn't get a wrench in there. I took the existing shock and pushed it into a bind so it was holding the bolt tight. Then I was able to get the nut off. Did the same thing when I put on the new shock and once I started to tighten the nut it the bolt grabbed and I was able to tighten it properly.

Re: Rear Shock Install?
The rear shock mounting studs are supposed to be welded in. The head on them is round so you couldn't get a wrench on them if you wanted to. I've had to replace these in the past. It's easiest if you have the bed off the truck. If there in good shape just reweld them, if not replace them with a bolt and weld them.

Re: Rear Shock Install?
Thanks guys, that makes sense they are intended to be solid. I'll get them in a bind to remove the shock then tack them with a welder.
When I pull the bed I'll probably put in a cleaner bolt and weld permamntly Gary |
