Fiberglass FRONT Fenders - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

New member...1st time post.....I have been looking EVERYWHERE for fiberglass FRONT fenders for a 1970 Chevy C10 setside pickup....of course I have found "plenty" of "steel" ones and fiberglass tilt front ends....but NO front fenders. What's up with that???? Or is there some place that sells them and I just haven't been able to find them?

When completed I plan to drag race our '70 p/u so fiberglass seems the way to go.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

my only guess would be to call and talk to the guys that make the whole tilt front clip, if they have the mold for the clip, im sure they can cut some fenders

I thought USBody Source made fiberglass fenders for our trucks...?

seems like a whole clip would be somewhat ideal if you are going to race it.

Except for the "price"...no doubt a tilt one-piece front end would be the way to go....but a grand and a half is too much right now for me.....that's why I'm continuing my search for "fiberglass fenders".....you'd think with all of the rear 'glass ones being made for our truck that "fronts" would also be available.

i'm guessing maybe they support some of the front grill assembly? might not be practical....i dunno.

First off

to the board

'68 longbed has a very good point. The fenders on these trucks are also a very big part of the structure of the front clip. So maybe that is why you are having a hard time finding glass fenders for your truck.
If you think about it every piece of the front clip is bolted to the fenders at some point.
That is my thoughts.

yeah usbody are the ones that make the fenders they make every part for our trucks, i mean everything, race or street, there is a guy that races here in indy he is running their race cab and fenders hood and there bed really nice truck,

Just talked to the guys at "US BODY"....they "DO" have front fenders.....BUT they are NOT "fiberglass"....they told me that because the 67-72 Chev p/u front fenders have to support the weight of the "hood" that fiberglass fenders would NOT hold up under the stress. To make them "strong" enough they would cost a bunch of $$$$ to make. They did say they have seen fiberglass front fenders advertised by other suppliers but knowing what they need to be able to handle the stress they are probadly "junK" and would NOT last. So I bought a pair of "steel front fenders" from them ....for NOW....and have the one-piece-fiberglass "tilt" front end on my DREAM-LIST (1500 bucks)...Thanks again for all the help....looking forward to "hanging" on this sight as I build our "new toy"....John - PA-IndianRider - Pittsburgh, PA

The more I look for parts and part suppliers the MORE I find. Feels good to have a vehicle that there is actually PLENTY of "parts available for". I hope to get this pickup back on the road before the end of Summer....THEN... over the Winter I'm going to "chop" 4 inches outta the roof. Got lots of ideas I plan on doing as time goes on.

It's already dropped 3" in the front and 5" in the rear....the whole front end ('79) has already been completely done over....got new inner fenderwells and new fiberglass rear fenders....PLUS I have a 350-4 bolt in the garage just waiting to be rebuilt and hot rodded!!!

Once I get the front fenders (next Wed.) and a new set of headers I'll be ready to start putting it all back together.....a coat of "flat black" paint and I'll be ready to go for now.

ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT KIND OF HEADERS TO GET???

How much do you want to spend? Doug thorley headers are some of the best but cost 550+, for a good cheap header that works well (leaks and performance wise) look into flowtech afterburners

Just a note to maybe help you on parts searches.There are quite a few vendors on this site.They give good service and there are reveiws written on them.Many also support the site.There is a list I believe on the home page.

Trying not to come off like a jerk, but there is really only one way to say/ask this...

Is the $1,500 too much for that part, or just too much in general?
I ask, because, If $1,500 is too much, then isn't racing too much? Drag racing can be quite expensive, very quick - and with a vehicle (these trucks) that isn't at all made to do it - it is that much more true.

Just a thought.

I still say go for it though - and best of luck to you. Sounds great!

BTW - djracer is the guy that has the Drag Truck - I am sure no doubt that he can help you with some stuff.

I think for weight reduction, the fiber hood is a better replacement than fenders. As mentioned, the fenders are needed to hold your front clip together. While the hood is not for structure, but is big and is pretty damn heavy. Swapping the hood, and removing some grill/bumper components might be a cheaper way to lose weight.
Also if you relocate the batt and fluid tanks, then you can make rad support braces to the firewall and frame and then mount fiber fenders...
